Strategic framework

A lifestyle without consuming animals.

1. We will respect, fulfill, and protect animal rights because every nonhuman animal has the right to have his own life and has the basic interests in this ecocentric universe. Therefore, we will fight all forms of carnism.

2. We will promote ecofeminism to stop the oppression of women and, at the same time, stop the oppression of nature.

3. We will promote environmental veganism by prioritizing nature conservation and rejecting the use of animal products on the premise that all forms of fishing, animal hunting, animal trapping, livestock breeding mainly factory farming, are not environmentally sustainable.

We are an ecofeminist NGO working in Indonesia. We intend to stop the oppression of women in parallel with stopping the oppression of nature. We do this by empowering female groups who suffer from feminization of poverty in the rural and urban areas to live independent vegan lifestyle in order to elevate the dignity of women while reducing poverty and protecting the nature.

To support groups of women who directly or indirectly suffer from the feminization of poverty to free themselves from poverty by adopting an independent vegan lifestyle.

Veganindo Anti Kemiskinan has three strategic programs namely:

1—Promoting an Independent Vegan Lifestyle
In this program we motivate women who are ensnared in the feminization of poverty to live an independent vegan lifestyle so that they will soon be free of all forms of poverty and morbidity that have trapped them so far. To achieve this goal effectively, they are facilitated to grow their own daily foodstuffs including herbal crops so that they avoid various diseases. However, because none of these poor women owns land, we train them to develop a unique landless but highly productive farming system, namely organic farming in pots upcycled from waste plastic bottles and bags. Through this unique organic-farming system we facilitate these poor women to grow productive plants for their own consumption (so that they are free from hunger and morbidity) and for sale (so that they are free from poverty).

This farming system is fully organic which is totally without the use of chemicals. In addition, all the waste plastic bottles and bags that they use as farming pots which then become obsolete, will be recycled into bricks and pavers for their own use or for sale, thereby increasing their income. In order to do this effectively, from the beginning we have established strategic partnerships with our fellow NGO, Komunitas Penadbiran Sampah (Waste Governance Community) or KPS, which is well known as the initiator of the organic-farming system in pots made of waste plastic bottles, bags, and junk with bricks and pavers as its by-products.

2—Vegan Menu Competition
In this program we hold a competition to design recipes for vegans made from vegetables and fruits based on four categories (namely staple foods, side dishes, desserts, and foods that contain herbs mainly in the form of juices of vegetables and fruits), and five advantages (environmentally friendly, nutritious, delicious, inexpensive, and easy to manage). The cooking process of all the recipes from the winning and losing participants will be made into videos with English text for further dissemination throughout the world via Youtube, Facebook, and Twitter. With this we hope that the vegan lifestyle is increasingly accepted by the global community.

3—Vegan Camp
The main target groups of this program are young women who come from poor families living in rural and urban areas. We motivate and facilitate them for several weeks to practice the veganism lifestyle in camps in rural and urban areas. There they learn how to grow various food and herbal crops as well as how to cook various veganism menus based on recipes from the Vegan Menu Competition Program above. Through this Vegan Camp Program we hope to be able to forge these young people into new vegans who will further promote the veganism lifestyle in their present and future social environments.

1. Through the Promoting an Independent Vegan Lifestyle program, we successfully changed the life of 1,200 needy women as the breadwinners in their respective families from rural areas and urban slums of Java and Sulawesi Island. Although nobody among them who have land, but we encourage them to be new vegans by facilitating them to manage organic farms of mushrooms and bean sprout on pots made of waste plastic bottles and bags. They sell and eat their harvests. Thanks to this program, the women who used to be poor and sick are now able to liberate their families from poverty and morbidity.

2. Through the Vegan Menu Competition program, we managed to organize 30 competition events and collected 422 vegan menu recipes made of vegetables and fruits. These consist of 186 staple-food recipes, 143 side-dish recipes, 61 desserts, and 32 herbal-food recipes. Currently we are collecting funds to record the cooking process of these cuisine in videos with text in English for further dissemination throughout the world via YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter.

3. Through the Vegan Camping program, we managed to attract more than 1,000 girls, including female students from various universities in Java and Sulawesi, to become new vegans. According to our monitoring team, most of these alumni continue to actively promote veganism lifestyle in their respective social environments.

The main target groups of Veganindo Anti Kemiskinan are:

• Women as victims of feminization of poverty, especially those who become breadwinners in their families.

• Young women who come from poor families who are vulnerable to the feminization of poverty.

• Poor women and girls with disabilities.
